Why Invest in Bamboo

Bamboo

Fast Growth: Bamboo (Denrocalamus Asper) is the fastest growing land plant in the world (only ocean kelp grows faster) A 20 m bamboo Culm can replace itself within 50 days as opposed to a 20 m hardwood tree which can take decades to grow. Each time it is harvested it regrows naturally from the stump.

Longevity: A single bamboo clump can produce up to 15 kilometers of usable pole over a 15 year period. Carbon Sequestration: Bamboo sequesters (absorbs) around 4 times more CO2 than average timber and produces 35% more Oxygen; as soon as a bamboo pole is harvested it starts the process of regrowth and carbon sequestration.

Strength: Bamboo possesses a tensile strength of 52 pounds per square inch, stronger than most steel. As such, it is a major component in the construction industry for scaffolding, flooring, house construction and structural support across Asia and is now spreading globally. Hardwood floorings from bamboo are now the 1st choice for builders globally due to the high quality and sustainability.

Commercial Applications: Over 1 billion people live in houses made of bamboo. In India alone over 2.2 million tonnes of bamboo is used for paper. Other applications include food, construction (Scaffolding), joinery, panels, flooring, furniture, charcoal, pulp, paper, cosmetics, medicines and textiles. Energy and bio-fuels, bamboo is a a major source of biomass for use in the booming renewable energy markets, with Europe alone looking to import around 85% of its biomass requirement as part of its renewable energy programme.

High Value: Due to the above, bamboo has a high value and produces investor returns annually commencing as early as Year 2.

“The world Market for Bamboo is valued at US $10 Billion and is expected to reach about $20 Billion by 2015”  Ministry of Agriculture, India
