Our agro-forestry partner is a for-profit plantation company specialising in the cultivation and harvesting of tropical hardwoods for sale into the commodity markets.
A UK / Sri Lankan partnership, the company benefits from global business innovation and ideas from the West, while also capitalizing on hundreds of years of agro-forestry experience and tradition from the East.
What’s more, with Sri Lankan BOI Approval it means that our agro-forestry partner has been awarded a tax -free status for a period of 15 years, further strengthening its business model and allowing maximum flexibility for increased investment.
With government approval and pride in this forward thinking and ethical company, coupled with an imminent listing on the Colombo Stock Exchange, TGIC only see great things to come from this new age plantation company.
And with huge commercial plantations based in Sri Lanka and Thailand they are well placed to take advantage of the rapidly accelerating consumer appetite of India and China.
Along with tropical forestry our partners are also pioneering the way for renewable energy in India and Sri Lanka by cultivating bio-crops to be used for combustion in renewable power plants. They also have current investment plans to build company-owned renewable power plants within the next three years. Thisinvestment will represent a commitment of around USD$250 million in power plants and a further USD$30 - $40 million in agro-forestry plantations, and will make them one of the largest commercial forestry and agricultural operators in South East Asia.
